219 new COVID-19 cases, 142 recoveries

There are 219 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on August 22, 2021. 

The new cases are located in the following zones: Saskatoon (50), Regina (47), South Central (23), North Central (21), North East (20), North West (15), Central East (10), South West (10), Far North West (4), South East (4), Far North East (3), Far North Central (2), and Central West (1).

Eighteen of the new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

Nine cases are pending residence information.

Just over one-third (34.7 per cent) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category.

Five previously reported cases with pending residence information were assigned to the Saskatoon (2), Far North West (1), North West (1), and North Central (1) zones.

One Saskatchewan resident confirmed positive tested out-of-province was added to the case counts in South East, while two were added to the North Central (1) and Saskatoon (1) zones.

Two cases were presumptive positive and removed from the Saskatoon zone.

There are now 52,472 reported cases, including 1,556 active cases.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case number is 166 (13.8 new cases per 100,000). 

There are no additional deaths to report today. The provincial total remains at 586.

A total of 12,431 Variants of Concern have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan, reported in the following zones: Regina (4,834), Saskatoon (2,176), South East (1,158), South Central (894), North West (883), North Central (665), Central East (654), South West (416), Far North West (338), Central West (150), Far North East (97), North East (86), and Far North Central (4). There are 76 screened VOCs with residence pending.

An additional 2,180 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,460,986.

There are 94 people in hospital. Eighty-two people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Saskatoon (33), Regina (19), North Central (17), North West (5), South Central (4), North East (2), South East (1), and South West (1). Fifteen people are in intensive care in the following zones: Saskatoon (8), North Central (2), and Regina (2). Of the 94 patients, 68 (72 per cent) are not fully vaccinated.

One hundred and forty-two more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 50,330 recoveries.

There were 1,975 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan. To date, 999,644 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
