And when it comes to their performance on the field, things are definitely moving in the right direction.
The Canucks dropped a pair of 6-5 decisions in Swift Current on Saturday, marking a far cry from their 9-0 defeat when the two teams met back on July 29.
The local squad was winless back then, but have since picked up three victories in their last seven and have found themselves right in every game they’ve played.
The Canucks are right back in action Thursday when they host the 57’s at Ross Wells.
Swift Current 6, Canucks 5
Things don’t get much closer than they were in the opening game as the two teams were tied 1-1 heading into the fifth inning as Canucks starter Dylan Reed and Swift Current’s Wyatt Harkes went head-to-head in a pitching duel.
Each team would score three runs in the fifth, and Moose Jaw would take the lead in the sixth when Kaedyn Banilevic reached on an error to score Cam O’Reilly.
The 57’s would come right back, though, and would take the lead when Carter Moberg doubled off Canucks reliever Kyle Duncan to bring home a pair of runs.
Kaleb Waller finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in, while Orin Olson tripled in the fifth inning and later came around to score.
Reed gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits while striking out five in four innings of work, while Duncan allowed two runs on three hits in his two innings of relief.
Swift Current 6, Canucks 5
As tough as the first loss was, the nightcap was brutal.
The Canucks took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh behind an absolute gem from starter Cam O’Reilly, but the 57’s would rally for five runs in their half to take the walk-off win.
O’Reilly would go six innings, scattering six hits and allowing the single run in the fifth inning. He’d finish the game with five strikeouts and three walks while throwing 107 pitches. Carson Reed took over in the final frame and would get two outs before Swift Current completed their rally.
Duncan had a 2-for-4 night at the plate that included an RBI, while Dylan Reed and Cole Breitkreuz each crossed the plate twice. Carson Reed was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Swift Current’s Chase Coward — a graduate of the Prairie Hockey Academy and member of the Moose Jaw AAA Warriors last season — was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
