But if the rest of the series is anything like the first two games, the Notre Dame Hounds are going to be a tough crew to close out.
After winning the series opener 4-2 on Thursday at Mosaic Place, the Warriors needed three third-period goals to take a 3-1 win on Sunday in Wilcox, taking a two-games-to-none lead in the best-of-five series.
Heading into the final frame Sunday, only Notre Dame’s Will Lavigne had managed to score, giving his team a 1-0 edge with 20 minutes to play.
Parker Jasper would tie the game with a power play goal only 45 seconds into the third, though, and Max Wanner would make it 2-1 Moose Jaw just over a minute later. The Warriors weren’t done there as Jasper added his second man-advantage marker – and the eventual game winner --with 4:22 to play.
Brendan Kerr would get one back with 3:37 remaining, but that would be as close as the Hounds would get.
Chase Coward made 31 saves for the Warriors, Jared Picklyk had 24 stops in the Notre Dame net.
The Warriors will look to finish off the series on Monday night when they host the hounds for Game 3. Game time is 7 p.m. at Mosaic Place.
