Moose Jaw’s Skylar Ackerman won’t be getting much of a rest in her quest to win the Saskatchewan junior women’s provincial curling championship in Saskatoon.
Ackerman and her Saskatoon Nutana rink of third Emily Haupstein, second Taylor Stremick and lead Abbey Johnson dropped a 6-4 decision to Saskatoon Sutherland’s Ashley Thevenot in the Page playoff 1-2 game at the tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
Only hours after defeating Thevenot in the final round robin game by scoring one in the final end, it was her opponent that got the job done in the 10th this time around, stealing a pair to secure the win.
Ackerman had earlier blanked the first four ends before settling for one in the fifth, after which Thevenot scored one in six and stole two in seven for a 2-1 lead. Ackerman got that one back and more in the eighth with a three-ender, but it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Thevenot in the final two ends.
As a result, Ackerman is now right back on the ice for the semifinal as she takes on Regina Callie’s Krystal Englot, with the winning advancing to face Thevenot for provincial gold at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
