The Assiniboia RCMP is warning residents there may be drugs laced with fentanyl in the community.

The concern stems from a call back on March 10. At that time, Assiniboia RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death at a local residence. Investigators believe the death was caused by the consumption of cocaine laced with fentanyl. The RCMP warn this fentanyl-laced drug may still be circulating in Saskatchewan.

Street drugs can contain other dangerous substances; fentanyl is sometimes mixed with heroin and cocaine. It has also been used in tablets that are designed to look like prescription drugs.

Fentanyl is odourless, tasteless, and hard to detect.

You should avoid all contact with fentanyl. If you find illicit drugs that you believe may contain fentanyl or carfentanil, leave the area immediately and call 911. Do not handle or touch these drugs. Do not bring the drugs to the local police or RCMP detachment.

If you believe someone has overdosed, call 911 immediately.
