Ava Beausoleil claims first spot in final at Curl Sask U20 Women’s Provincial Curling Championship

REGINA -- Saskatoon’s Ava Beausoleil will be playing for the green jackets at the Curl Sask U20 Women’s Provincial Championship on Sunday afternoon in Regina.

Beausoleil and her Nutana foursome of third Annika Steckler, second Leah Beausoleil, lead Hannah Rugg and alternate Mya Silversides advanced to the title game with a 9-5 win over Estevan’s Olivia Fonstad in the Page Playoff 1-2 game on Saturday night at the Highland Curling Club.

A three-ender in the fifth gave Beausoleil a 6-1 lead at that point in the contest, and while Fonstad was able to make things interesting with three in the eighth, Beausoleil would get a deuce in the ninth to secure the comfortable win.

Fonstad, third Amy Fradette, second April McMillen and lead Andrea Fradette will now face Saskatoon Nutana’s Jenna Pomedli in the semifinal after Pomedli took a 5-4 win over Regina Highland’s Chloe Johnston in the Page 3-4 game.

Pomedli and her defending provincial champion foursome of third Melissa Remeshylo, second Kelsey Noyes and lead Kylie Willms first had to qualify for the playoffs and they did just that with a 10-2 win over North Battleford’s Chloe Semeniuk in one of two C finals on Saturday morning.

Johnston, third Cara Kesslering, second Kya Ladouceur and lead Kaylee Rosenfelt advanced in dramatic fashion in their semifinal, scoring three in the 10th to take an 8-6 win over Regina Highland’s Shawna Simpson.

The winner of Pomedli and Fonstad will face Beausoleil for the provincial championship at 2 p.m.

The U20 women’s champion will advance to the U20 Women’s Provincial Curling Championship in Summerside, P.E.I from Mar 22-30.
