Fall changes the landscape and our Saskatchewan parks reflect it with each passing day.

"September can be one of the most beautiful and relaxing times of the year to camp in our parks," Parks, Culture and Sports Minister Laura Ross said.  "It is the perfect opportunity to extend your summer and enjoy nature while the parks are less busy."

Buffalo Pound will be hosting the third annual, “Smoke'n the Valley Backyard Barbecue Competition,” being held on September 11th and 12th in Maple Valley Loop. The competition is an amateur event with KBCS (Kansas City Babeque Society) level judges. The entry fee is $175 per team with an option to cook with a mystery box at $25 per team. The teams will be competing in pork, chicken, ribs, and brisket categories.

Saturday afternoon will include a viewing of the game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The 2 p.m. game will be streamed on the big screen. Saturdays can’t get any better than that, BBQ, the game, and the beer gardens. But we are not done yet! Sit back and relax or get up and dance at the free concert performed by country music artist Justin LaBrash on Saturday evening starting at 7:30.

“The boys and I are really looking forward to this concert as it is the first time the band has played at Buffalo Pound. To be able to have such a beautiful setting for a concert to wrap up our summer drive-in/outdoor Hell or High Water Tour and thank our fans for their support over the past couple of summers is perfect. Being a guest judge for the Backyard BBQ competition before the concert is the icing on the cake for us!

We invite everyone to come on out on September 11th. The Banjo Bowl will be on a big screen before our free concert and delicious BBQ will be available to enjoy while you soak in the sights and sounds and aromas of the event!” said LaBrash.

And be sure to note that Buffalo Pound is continuing their swimming pool hours, subject to weather conditions. Take advantage of the warm September days.
