MOOSE JAW — Former students from Central Collegiate Institute’s Class of 1985 are preparing to turn back the clock this summer as they gather for their 40-year high school reunion.
The three-day event will bring together 40 alumni and 20 spouses from across the country for a weekend of nostalgia, laughter, and reconnection from June 28 to 30.
“We are planning a reunion for the Central Collegiate grad class of 1985,” said Pam Kemps (Taylor), a Central Collegiate alumna and reunion organizer. “It’s (going to be) three days of just getting together and socializing.”
Reunion activities will include a tour of Central Collegiate, a throwback ‘80s night at Dooly’s Billiards & Lounge, intramural games, and even a few skits. Around eight former teachers and faculty members — all since retired — have also confirmed their attendance.
A meet-and-greet will take place at Wakamow Heights Bed and Breakfast, while Dooly’s will host additional social gatherings and will be opening exclusively for the reunion.
Although the group previously held reunions at the 15- and 25-year marks, they chose to hold the reunion at the 40-year mark rather than waiting for the traditional 50-year milestone. This decision was made considering that time is precious and every opportunity to reconnect matters. With the passing of a few classmates over the years, the group felt it was important to come together sooner rather than later to celebrate friendships and share memories.
“It’s just that life is short, so you better enjoy it and get together. So yeah, we just thought 40 years is a good year, so why not?”
A private Facebook group has been set up to help coordinate the event. Organizers are asking those interested to search for the group online or contact them directly by email.
The group has been organizing the event for over a year now, and their hope is that the story might help them reconnect with a few remaining classmates they’ve been unable to reach.
“There are a few people that we haven’t been able to contact… about 20,” Kemps said. “We just want them to be aware of it. Maybe they’ve moved, but maybe their parents still live here (and can pass along the news).”
