City Council discusses re-evaluating a business licence

The issue concerns noise complaints

An ongoing dispute between a local business playing loud music and residents in the area bringing forth complaints about the noise was the subject of a special motion during the most recent meeting of Moose Jaw city council.

Coun. Dawn Luhning brought forth a motion seeking administration prepare a report for executive committee to re-evaluate the issuance of a business licence for areas of the city where commercial district mixed use could be an issue for neighbouring properties.

The issue comes out of the opening of a new business in late summer of 2018 and complaints five households in the area have had with booming bass and noise in general. The issue raises its head multiple times a week and has seen police involved on several occasions, with current bylaws offering no solution.

Both Luhning and Mayor Fraser Tolmie expressed their concern over the interruption of peace and quite and how being a ‘good neighbour’ was being violated with the continuous noise.

The motion was referred to administration.
