With summer approaching, it is time to remove tree bands.

The City of Moose Jaw wants residents to know that it is now time to remove the bands applied to private and boulevard trees. This will allow the bark underneath to dry out, which will help the tree's overall health.

In a press release, the city thanked all residents who banded elm trees this year. They ask that you remember to reapply bands in the fall, sometime around the second week in September. This will reduce infestations of fall cankerworm moths. All elm, Manitoba maple and fruit trees should be banded.

The parks and recreation department will host a tree banding clinic in the fall in order to demonstrate how to properly band a tree.

For more information on tree banding, contact the parks and recreation department at 306-694-4439.
