The voters have spoken and Clive Tolley has been elected the 41st mayor of the City of Moose Jaw following a tightly contested race.

Tolley received 21.5 per cent of the votes (1,290 votes) during the 2021 mayoral byelection on Nov. 3, coming in ahead of second-place candidate Coun. Crystal Froese by 41 votes.

While all five polling stations had reported in, the results are still considered unofficial until the city clerk's office verifies the count and releases the data.

The polling stations included Minto United Church, Church of Our Lady, the Cosmo Senior Citizens Centre, the Moose Jaw Exhibition Convention Centre and the advance polls.

The other candidates who ran in the mayoral byelection were Coun. Heather Eby, Coun. Kim Robinson, Sam Morrison, Mike Simpkins, Wayne Watermanuk, Michael Haygarth and Brett McAuley.

Besides the media and members of city administration, Robinson, Haygarth, Froese, Eby and Watermanuk -- some with family members -- were also in council chambers watching the results come in.

The Moose Jaw Express/MooseJawToday.com will have a complete story about the election outcome on Thursday.
