A media release announcing a prescribed burn in the Arrow Head area of Douglas Provincial Park noted that it is scheduled to take place this week, and assures residents that all safety precautions will be taken during the burn.
Around 62 hectares will be burned, during a process that is expected to take four days. The burn will be done by trained professionals from the Government Relations Emergency Management and Fire Safety.
Adjacent properties will not be at risk.
The controlled burn is the second scheduled to take place during the next three to five years, as part of a rejuvenation project for the park.
Prescribed burns are done to reduce dangerous fuel loads in an area and to speed up nature’s rejuvenation through fire, to maintain ecological health and also public safety.
