MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- The Vanier Spirits are unbeaten no more in the Moose Jaw High Schools Athletic Association senior girls volleyball league.
And with the city championship playoffs on the horizon, that could make for some interesting matches in a couple of weeks time.
The Cornerstone Christian School Falcons improved to 6-2 on the season thanks to a 25-21, 15-25, 25-23, 25-10, 15-10 win over the defending city champion Spirits at Vanier.
The win saw Cornerstone improve to 6-2 in the senior girls' Tier I league and remain in a tie for second place with the Peacock Toilers.
Peacock did their part to hold onto second with a 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17 win over the Briercest Christian Academy Cougars, who dropped to 3-5 on the campaign.
In senior girls' Tier II league action, the Rouleau Rebels took a 3-0 win over Notre Dame.
The Rebels are now 4-4 and in first place in Tier II, Notre Dame dropped to 0-7.
The senior boys league also saw a close battle, as the Central Cyclones took a 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 15-10 victory over the Peacock Toilers.
Central improved to 6-0 and remain in first place, having lost only three sets all season. Peacock dropped to 3-4 and is in third place.
The other boys' game Tuesday saw Cornerstone pick up their second win of the season, thanks to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-16 sweep against Briercerst.
The Falcons are now 2-5 on the campaign, the Cougars 1-5.
Senior boys action continues Thursday with Vanier at Briercrest and Central at Cornerstone, with both games at 8 p.m.
Senior girls play on Tuesday, Oct. 29 sees Vanier at Peacock, Briercrest at Cornerstone and Notre Dame at Central.
The league also announced a scheduling change for the city championship final, which will now see the senior girls' and senior boys' gold medal games taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
The girls final was originally scheduled for Nov. 12, but the close proximity to Remembrance Day facilitated the change.
The girls championship will now take place at 5:50 p.m. at Sask Polytech, with the boys game following immediately after at 8 p.m.
