The Cornerstone Christian School Falcons will host a 2A boys volleyball regional playdown this weekend.
Moose Jaw will be a hotbed of high school boys volleyball this weekend as both the Cornerstone Christian School Falcons and Peacock Toilers will be hosting regional championships.

The Falcons will be one of the undeniable favourites in their 2A provincial qualifier after going undefeated in the Moose Jaw high school league season before falling in the final to the Vanier Vikings.

The one-day tournament will see Cornerstone kick things off on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Hepburn before facing Langham in their second round-robin contest at 2 p.m.

The top two finishers in each pool will advance to the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. with the two winners there earning provincials berths. The game to determine the regional champion goes at 6 p.m., with the contest to determine the third provincial representative between the semfinal losers going at 7 p.m.

There will be no shortage of local teams in action at Peacock as the two-time defending provincial champion Vikings will be joined by the Toilers and Central Cyclones.

Peacock kicks things off in Pool A at 9 a.m. against Yorkton Sacred Heart before facing Vanier at 1 p.m. to cap their round robin. Vanier takes on Sacred Heart at 11 a.m.

Over in Pool B, Central does battle with Lumsden at 12 p.m. and Melville at 2 p.m.

The remainder of the playdown follows the same format as 2A: top two teams advance, semifinals at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., regional final at 6 p.m., third-place game at 7 p.m.

The top three 2A teams advance to provincials in St. Walburg Nov. 26-27, while the 4A qualifiers will be right here back in Moose Jaw the same weekend, with the Vikings acting as tournament hosts.
