The Cosmo Senior Citizen’s Centre will hold its yearly Christmas banquet on Thursday, Dec. 7, and everyone in the community is welcome to share a meal of Chinese food provided by the Uptown Café. The supper is part of an annual tradition that helps raise funds to keep the centre in operation.
The banquet will take place at the Cosmo Centre starting at 5 p.m. and tickets go for $20 per person. Children under the age of 12 can enter for the discounted rate of $10 per person.
“Our objective is to support everybody in Moose Jaw who wants to come down there for entertainment, meals, brunch, or whatever they like to do,” explained Bill Smith, the centre's president.
The Cosmo Centre shares a valuable role in the community, being host to a wide range of events including concerts for all age groups, weddings, funeral services, line dancing, and much more.
The Uptown Café will be providing its signature Chinese cuisine for the second straight year after the Cosmo Centre tried out the new menu option in 2022.
“It’s Chinese food, brought down by the people from the Uptown Café. They’ll keep (the food) heated as people fill their plates,” Smith said. “We tried it last year for the first time, and lots of people came so we’re hoping it happens again.”
Smith said the choice to add Chinese food to the menu was due to popular demand and provides a change from the usual options. “Usually we serve turkey, but we’re giving them a break from turkey.”
Tickets can be purchased right up until a day or two before the supper scheduled for Dec. 7. This allows the Uptown Café’s staff more time to prepare a bulk order for the event.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 306-692-6072 or by sending an email to [email protected]. You can also pick up your tickets in person at the Cosmo Centre.
“Anybody who wants to come can. You can even come down there and bring your wife and all your kids,” Smith concluded.
The Cosmo Centre is located at 235 Third Avenue Northeast.
