CPKC forced to clean up derailment of train cars in Moose Jaw yard

A locomotive was moving six rail cars at slow speed in the Moose Jaw rail yard on the night of April 8 when the derailment happened

MOOSE JAW — No one was injured when a half-dozen rail cars jumped the tracks in the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) yard recently.

A locomotive was moving six rail cars at slow speed in the Moose Jaw rail yard on the night of April 8 when the derailment happened, although all the units remained upright, a company spokesman said by email. The incident did not injure any employees, while there was no threat to public safety.

With the help of cranes and other heavy machinery, CPKC employees were able to re-rail all the cars during the early morning of April 9 and the company later resumed normal operations.

The spokesman did not provide any other details about the incident or what the rail cars may have been carrying.
