Driver crashes into fence after trying to flee the police

A driver tried to evade the police but didn't get very far.

On Saturday, April 19 around 7:30 p.m., police on patrol on South Hill deteced a possible impaired driver. This individual then allegedly fled from police before crashing into a fence at Sixth Avenue S.W. and Duffield St. West. 

Edmonton's Mahamed Bashir Farah, 32, was arrested on scene.

He has been charged with the following offences:

  • one count of driving while disqualified;
  • one count of flight from police;
  • one count of impaired operation of a conveyance;
  • one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • six counts of failing to comply with Recognizance.

Farah was remanded into custody. He will make his first appearance in provincial court this morning.
