Fire chief Rod Montgomery addressed Executive Committee last night with regards to updating the proposed Fire Bylaw, with several amendments and changes designed in part to streamline the department’s ability to collect fees – such as through inspections and false alarms – as well as the ability to enforce issues the come up from non-compliance.
There was some discussion with regards to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and fines that could be imposed under the bylaw, with Montgomery pointing out that enforcement in many cases would be difficult, but the education aspect would be just as important.
The communication was sent to council for first, second and third bylaw readings.
