Each year, more than 500 babies are born at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital — this year’s Family First Radiothon will help ensure they and their mothers receive the best possible care.

MOOSE JAW — The Family First Radiothon is back for another heartfelt year of fundraising in support of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation (MJHF), with this year’s campaign focused on raising $140,000 for critical equipment in the Women’s Health Unit at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.

Hosted by 800 CHAB, the 36-hour radiothon will broadcast live from the Town ‘N’ Country Mall starting at 6 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, and wrapping up at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 2.

“This year, we’re raising funds for the Women’s Health Unit, including a wireless cardiac monitor to monitor both mom and baby, neonatal monitors to track the baby’s heart rate after birth, and a Panda Warmer, which provides a safe, secure environment right beside mom after delivery,” said Kelly McElree, director of the MJHF.

The goal is to raise enough additional proceeds to cover the full cost of this new equipment. McElree noted that any additional funds raised will go toward purchasing more items to benefit mothers and newborns. Each year, over 500 babies are born at Moose Jaw’s hospital.

Now in its 19th year, the radiothon has become a highly anticipated community tradition.

“Every year, the radiothon is unique,” McElree noted. “Different businesses and different individuals come out to offer support, and many return year after year. People in the community really look forward to it.”

Dr. Volker Rininsland — fondly known as “The Singing Doctor” — will once again lend his musical talents to this year’s radiothon.

“Dr. Rininsland has been a champion of health care in the community,” McElree said. “He’s been a physician in our community for 40 years, and has helped countless people… He… comes out every single year and creates a song for the Family First Radiothon. This year will be no different.”

Rininsland’s musical contributions are just one part of what makes the Family First Radiothon a memorable event each year.

“It’s always fun and energetic,” McElree added. “I look forward to hearing from so many medical professionals about the care they provide, and from grateful patients sharing how health care and the generosity of this community has helped them and their families.”

The Town ‘N’ Country Mall will once again serve as the hub of the event, with donors invited to drop by in person, hear live testimonials, and witness the energy and community spirit that the radiothon inspires.

Residents can participate by donating online at MJHF.org or by visiting the mall in person during the two-day run. All contributions go directly toward enhancing local health care and improving outcomes for women and newborns in Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.

The Town ‘N’ Country Mall is located at 1235 Main Street North. To learn more or to donate, visit MJHF.org.
