That would be Regina’s Angela Tapp, who rode Leading Fast Chic to a time of 14.170 seconds early in the day and held fast as rider after rider came close but fell just short.
And if you’re wondering if the thousandth of a second is necessary in the sport, just have to look at the remainder of the top five times.
Take Eriksdale, Man.’s Dawn Vandersteen, for example. She covered the cloverleaf only nine-thousandths of a second slower than Tapp, riding Royal Cash to a time of 14.179. Gravelbourg’s Krystal Grad isn’t far behind after a 14.194 on A Special Perks; Moosomin’s Amanda Porter is six-thousands of a second back in fourth 14.200 on Miss Kiddy Dual. Sheho’s Ferrah Fogg holds down fifth place after riding Turnpike Country to 14.291 seconds.
The event has proven popular with fans through the first two days of competition, too, as the stands at the Golden Mile Arena have been full throughout the various classes on Monday and Tuesday.
There will be plenty of time to take in action the rest of the week -- the second Open Go begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and runs throughout the day, while the Short Open Go begins at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Admission is free throughout the event.
