After the brief competition with Norwegian town Stor-Elvdal over who’s moose is better, a peaceful ‘Moosarandum of Understanding’ declared the two cities friends, which is why Moose Jaw is celebrating Constitution Day alongside Norway on May 17.
The schedule for the first-ever Norway Day celebration has been released, and it features scrambled eggs — a tradition in Norway, and therefore a tradition here in Moose Jaw too.
The day will kick off at the Tourism Visitor Centre with a toonie breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage, from 8 to 9 am. The proceeds will be donated to Mac the Moose’s ongoing cosmetic upgrades.
The Norwegian flag will be raised at 8:30 a.m., which will kick off the official ceremonies. Mayor Fraser Tolmie will say a few words and there will be an update on the state of Mac’s project, along with a special message from Stor-Elvdal’s deputy-mayor Linda Henriksen. This will be followed by a performance from Peacock’s vocal jazz choir.
Mayor Tolmie is encouraging everyone in Moose Jaw to join in the celebrations: come down to the Tourism Centre and enjoy some breakfast, decorate your home or wear the Norwegian blue, red, and white on Friday.
“We are proud of the relationship established with our Norwegian friends and hope that Norway Day will help make that relationship even stronger and lead to future partnerships,” said Mayor Tolmie in a press release.
