The Moose Jaw Health Foundation’s (MJHF) 27th annual Concerts in the Park is returning for a full season starting Wednesday, June 15 and running until Wednesday, Aug. 24.

The concerts will take place at the Crescent Park Amphitheatre on Wednesday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The concerts are free, and everyone is welcome. A collection for the Health Foundation will follow each performance — all funds stay in the community.

To date, the MJHF’s Concerts in the Park series has raised over $122,000 to provide state-of-the-art equipment for patients at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.

Funds raised from this year’s concerts will support the Women’s Health and Pediatric units.

“Each year, people look forward to spending time listening to great music at Concerts in the Park,” said Ryan Hrechka, board chair of the MJHF. “We appreciate all the bands that volunteer their time to entertain those that attend each week. Concerts in the Park are one way that the Foundation says ‘thank you’ to our donors who generously support us to improve healthcare at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.”

Kelly McElree, executive director of the MJHF, said, “The Concerts in the Park series has a rich, rich history in Moose Jaw. It was started 27 years ago by a fellow by the name of Bill Taylor.”

Taylor used to host the concert each week until McElree took over from him.

“Bill said, ‘Well, I’d like you to host it.’ So, I’ve been fortunate enough to host Concerts in the Park for the last 17 years. I look forward to it each and every year.”

The bands that come to perform are mostly locals. McElree called the predominant style old-school Prairie music, and said that “(Ever) since the city put in the concrete pad out front (of the Amphitheatre), people just dance the evening away.

“I look forward to seeing so many of our donors and supporters that come out each and every single week, and we raise a little money, and we have a great, great time.”
