The Park Hotel Colts haven’t lost many games in Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball action in recent years, but Tuesday was one of those nights.

The Heat built a 4-1 lead through three innings and held off a seventh-inning surge to take a 4-3 victory at Caribou Heights. The late game wasn’t as close, as Assiniboia scored five in the third inning to take an 11-3 win over the Hustlers.

Scores from Wednesday’s games were not reported.

League action continues tonight as the Aces face the Hustlers, with an 8:30 p.m. start time.

Heat 4, Colts 3

The Heat got off to a fast start, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning and then extending their lead to 4-1 when Shayla Freeman hit a two-run double in the third inning.

Heat starter Steph Gomersall, meanwhile, would bend but not break. She’d strand the bases loaded in the first, leave runners on first and third in the second inning and strand another runner on second in the third.

Jamie Kabanuk took over in the fourth and was just as effective, allowing a single run in the inning, but shutting the Colts down until the seventh.

There, things would get very interesting, as Keri Legare doubled to lead off the Colts’ half of the inning and came around to score, bringing her team to within one. Four batters later, the Colts would have the bases loaded, but Kabanuk would close things out with a ground ball back to the pitcher.

Kimberly Michelson scored a pair of runs for the Heat, while Victoria Nameth was 2-for-4 with a double. Brooklyn Banilevic and Deleigh Brentnall scored the Colts’ other runs.

Assiniboia 11, Hustlers 3

The Hustlers held a 1-0 lead heading into the third, but the Aces cranked out six base hits with two outs, scoring five runs to take a 5-1 lead.

Things became rather interesting when the Hustlers scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and left the bases loaded, but Assiniboia once again struck it big in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs on four hits to invoke the mercy rule.

Maura Belles was 2-for-3 with two triples and four runs batted in to lead the Aces, while Raina Peterson, Grace Pollon and Lakida Peterson all crossed the plate twice.

Brianne Welder scattered allowed a single run on three hits to earn the win, while Sarah Feeley tossed the final two innings. Krissy Rusu and Adrianna Phillips pitched for the Hustlers.
