Construction on the new passing lanes north of Moose Jaw on Highway 2 has begun, alongside a number of other construction projects set to take place this summer.

The provincial government has invested around $700 million in highway projects this year, focused on safety improvements such as building passing lanes, modifying intersections, adding rumble strips, guardrails, and lighting to roads in need.

The improvement of intersection safety is a priority for this year’s construction season.

The passing lanes being added to Highway 2 near Moose Jaw are already underway, with work on Highways 9 and 10 near Yorkton scheduled to begin later this summer.

Approximately 1,000km of highway will be receiving these safety improvements, with more than a dozen projects currently listed on this spring’s tender plan.

Those projects include resurfacing near Southey, Delisle, Corinne, and Estevan, as well as intersection improvements on Highway 1 and Kalium Road.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure urges drivers to keep up to date with highway work zones through their website and to check the Highway Hotline for road restrictions before planning any trips.
