MOOSE JAW — Catholic trustees have approved an updated strategic plan to guide their work during the next few years and ensure they are intentional with their planning and decision-making while focusing “on what matters most.”
Furthermore, this year’s priorities align with the Ministry of Education’s provincial education plan, including inspiring success, mental health and well-being, supporting student learning and assessment, and supporting students’ transitions to entering, moving through, and leaving school.
The strategic plan — which the board approved during its recent meeting — also includes the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division’s foundational statements, including its vision, mission and values.
The vision is “Christ-centred lifelong learning,” the mission is to “create hope by fostering learning in a Catholic environment,” and the values are inclusion/diversity, Catholicity/religion/faith/family, teamwork, communication/transparency, respect, and learning/excellence/innovation.
Meanwhile, the guiding principles are Catholicity, learning, stewardship, inclusiveness, empowerment, communication and engagement, and celebration.
Furthermore, the strategic priorities include:
- Students are provided high-quality responsive curriculum, instruction and assessment
- The division will report continuous improvement using research-based practices and data-informed evidence
- Students and staff still be accommodated to support their learning
- Holy Trinity values respectful engagement with stakeholders to support the education system’s goals
- The organization supports connections with parishes and faith communities as it promotes Catholic Christian values and lives the gospel values
- The division supports a positive and inclusive environment, embracing diversity and commitments to truth and reconciliation
Action priorities
The board and the director have identified the following priorities for this school year, although they can be carried into future years if necessary:
- Student achievement: More meaningful assessments and reporting and working with school communities to set priorities for classroom support and complexities
- Student, family, teacher and staff well-being: Engaging with parents and families, providing opportunities for collaboration, strengthening relationships, and addressing mental health and well-being
- Faith formation and permeation: Educating the community about Holy Trinity’s distinctiveness and continuing to foster connections with parishes and faith communities by working toward the goals of Catholic education
- Safe and welcoming schools: Having responsible use of tech, supporting the new school opening and transitioning staff and students there, promoting truth and reconciliation, and ensuring inclusivity
Furthermore, the board’s goals include faith permeation, workplace wellness, enterprise risk management, student learning, parish partnerships and parent engagement.
Also, this year’s faith theme is “Love, honour and respect each other” from Romans 12:10 in the Bible, while the plan’s seven years of faith themes — based on Catholic social teaching — include:
- Life and dignity of the human person
- Call to family and community and participation in the common good
- Rights and responsibilities
- Option for the poor and vulnerable
- Dignity of work
- Solidarity
- Care for God’s creation
Meanwhile, the division uses the words “lead, learn, love” as its call sign on social media since those ideas encapsulate what it does as an organization.
