The Kinsmen Sportsplex swimming pool will receive new lighting through the City of Moose Jaw’s lighting upgrade project, meaning that part of the pool will be closed to accommodate the changes.
The three-year phased project is replacing the previous lighting on the pool deck with upgraded, energy-efficient LED fixtures meant to provide better lighting and to decrease utility, maintenance and costs of repairs that older fixtures require. In order to complete this upgrade, portions of the pool — including the waterslides — will be closed to the public for maintenance, and will re-open fully on Mar. 2 for regular use.
Derek Blais, Director of Parks and Recreation, said the project has garnered positive feedback thus far.
“We’ve received a lot of compliments on the lights that have been done so far, drastic improvement in the lighting,” Blais said. “I think people will be happy that we are looking at ways to reduce our operating costs and help keep things affordable.”
Other facilities included in Phase 1 of the project include the Bert Hunt Arena, the Kinsmen Sportsplex arena, City Complex and the Wally Boschuk Arena. Phase 2 is scheduled for later in 2019, to upgrade City Hall and the Cultural Centre. Phase 3 in 2020 will include the Moose Jaw Public Library.
