The Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch 59 is looking for a few good men and women.

The Legion's Colour Party commander Steve Richardson  will be holding an information meeting regarding joining the local Legion's Colour Party on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m. at the Legion at 268 High St. W.

"Steve is going to have an information evening to let people know what they're in for and information on getting a uniform. There's Legion dress -- grey pants and a blue blazer -- and you need those," said Norma Richardson, spokesperson for the Moose Jaw branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. "Later in the spring there will be a practice or a drill to teach people how to march if they don't know how to march."

There is no experience necessary. Richardson said they would teach anyone interested how to march and anything else they need to know. Colour Party members need to be members of the Legion, but that isn't a prerequisite to attend the meeting and can be arranged afterwards.

Richardson said they're putting out the call for new members as age and failing health begin to catch up with the current membership. She noted that the Colour Party currently has three full-time active members.

"The rest have bad knees and they can do little things, but Steve, my husband, is the Colour Party commander. He's the young guy and he's 69," Richardson said.

The Legion would like to have 10 active members of the Colour Party.

"There used to be 30-plus in the Colour Party 20 years ago," Richardson said. "Before that they used to travel to the States for competitions and that sort of thing. They would be in the Hometown Fair Parade and the Santa Claus Parade."
