Tourism Moose Jaw, a non-profit organization with 150 member businesses, will hold its board elections from Dec. 5 to 11 with seven candidates in the running for six open board positions — meet the candidates here.
Elections will take place online. Each member of Tourism Moose Jaw will receive an email with a unique link. They will have until Dec. 11 to respond. Voting is anonymous.
Mark Abbey — Smitty’s Family Restaurant and Bugsy’s Irish Pub
Mark Abbey is seeking a second two-year term on the Tourism Moose Jaw board. Abbey has been the general manager at Smitty’s and Bugsy’s in the Town and Country Mall for 30 years and acquired an ownership stake in those restaurants in 2021.
He’s been a Moose Jaw resident since 1987 and believes the city’s tourism industry is a vital economic driver. Abbey looks forward to continuing to move Tourism Moose Jaw in a positive direction through effective and progressive policies, despite the unprecedented challenges of the last several years.
Yeng Ling — Moose Jaw Tours & Travel
Yeng Ling moved to Moose Jaw several years ago and became active in the community as a member of the following organizations: the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce, Women Entrepreneurs Saskatchewan (WESK), Affiliate Member of Hospitality Saskatchewan, Chinese Entrepreneurs Association of Saskatchewan (CEAS), and the Moose Jaw Chinese Community Network (MJCCN).
Ling has been in the travel industry for 31 years. She is an important liaison for newcomers from the Chinese community and assists both local organizations and business owners.
Rob Clark — Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce
Clark was born and raised in Moose Jaw. He started in business activities in 1985 and spent the majority of his career in media sales before moving to management.
Clark has been a Chamber board member and president for a combined 10 years and is currently CEO of the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce, a position he’s held since 2015.
He is a board director with Tourism Moose Jaw, South Central Community Futures, the Downtown Moose Jaw Association, and the city’s Economic Recovery Task Team.
He was active in the local sports community for 35 years as a player and coach. He and his wife, Glennis, have two daughters, four granddaughters, a great-grandson, and three great-granddaughters.
Bobby Hill — Tunnels of Moose Jaw
Hill is the general manager of The Tunnels of Moose Jaw. Born and raised in Moose Jaw, Hill has spent his working career in construction project management. He moved back to Moose Jaw in 2020 to help with the construction of the latest Tunnels attraction: Bunker 24.
His experience in construction management has transferred over well to the tourism industry and he has served on provincial and national masonry construction boards in the past. He would be honoured to serve on the Tourism Moose Jaw board of directors.
Rick McKeown — KCS Marketing
McKeown has served one two-year term on Tourism Moose Jaw already and is currently the board’s president. He owns and operates Kathy’s Custom Stitchery Ltd. with his wife.
He has lived in Moose Jaw for over 60 years, and has been involved in business for 35 years.
McKeown has been involved in minor sports in Moose Jaw and has served on several boards, including as a director for the Moose Jaw Warriors for nine years. He has also been a coach and long-time volunteer, including as chair of the Telus Cup for Hockey Canada and as a fundraiser for various organizations.
Terry Tian — Grant Hall Hotel
Tian is the general manager of the Grant Hall Hotel. He has served one two-year term on the Tourism Moose Jaw board already and is involved in developing other opportunities in Moose Jaw through Carpere Canada.
Dave Wentworth — Destination Whatever
Wentworth is a world traveler who speaks several languages and has been to more than 38 countries. He has a passion for tourism and enjoys civic involvement. He runs an online travel agency called Destination Whatever.
Wentworth currently serves on Moose Jaw’s Heritage Advisory Committee and on the planning committee for the 2023 Band and Choral Festival. He is involved with the Moose Jaw Community Players, enjoys being a YouTube content creator, and has filmed the Twinkle Tour and Halloween Haunt Hunt for Tourism Moose Jaw for several years.
