The Moose Jaw Warriors managed to make things interesting but still fell short in Saskatchewan AA Hockey League Midget division action against the Yorkton Terriers on Thursday at the Bert Hunt Arena.

Connor Ruckaber scored both goals for the Warriors as they attempted to overcome a 3-0 deficit midway through the second period, but that would be as close as the local squad would get in taking a 4-2 loss.

Cody Hort gave Yorkton a 1-0 lead out of the first period before adding his second of the game 7:41 into the second. Tanner Hoffman extended the lead to 3-0 at the 9:51 mark.

Ruckaber got the Warriors on the board just over two minutes after Hoffman’s goal to send the two teams into the break with Yorkton leading 3-1.

Ruckaber’s second goal five minutes into the third made for an interesting final frame, but Yorkton’s William Hauber would add an empty-net marker with 1:09 to play to close out scoring.

Brennan Watterson added two assists for the Warriors.

Moose Jaw’s Aiden Clegg got the start between the pipes and turned aside 34 shots, while the Warriors fired 12 shots at Durban Hleboff.

The Warriors fell to 6-14-1-1 in the South Sask division standings and sit in last place in the 13-team loop, eight points back of the Regina Rangers for the final playoff spot. Yorkton improved to 14-7-1-2.

Moose Jaw is back in action Saturday when they host the Weyburn Wings. Game time is 1:15 p.m. at the Red Knight Arena.
