MJ Votes: Clive Tolley confirms he’s running again for mayor

'I believe I have done a good job and I think the work of our team, council, city administration and city employees has contributed to the positivity and growth we are seeing in our city. There is more important work to do, and I want to be part of the team'

Mayor Clive Tolley has officially confirmed that he is running for re-election in the November municipal election and will file his nomination papers at city hall today before the 4 p.m. deadline.

“I have enjoyed the challenge and the privilege of serving as the mayor of Moose Jaw, Canada’s Most Notorious City,” he said.

“I believe I have done a good job and I think the work of our team, council, city administration and city employees has contributed to the positivity and growth we are seeing in our city. There is more important work to do, and I want to be part of the team that continues to work over the next term.”

Tolley — pronounced Tall-ee — was elected in a byelection that was held on Nov. 3, 2021, after previous mayor Fraser Tolmie announced he was running to be the Conservative Party candidate in the 2021 federal election that September.

Tolley received 21.5 per cent of the votes (1,290 votes) during the 2021 mayoral byelection, coming in ahead of second-place candidate Coun. Crystal Froese by 41 votes.

Since being elected, Tolley said he has ably led city council and administration through the pandemic and the economic challenges that followed, providing stable and balanced leadership, integrity, vision, objective decision-making and respectful teamwork.

Before becoming mayor, Tolley served a term as a city councillor in the late 1980s and worked as a chartered mediator and chartered arbitrator.

“I work diligently every day to make our city a better place to live, raise a family, work, build a business, and enjoy a healthy and happy life,” he added. “I appreciate the effort that so many of our citizens put into that very same work.”
