Q: “What motivated you to enter public service?”
A: “I was motivated to enter public service because I believe in the potential of Moose Jaw and want to help create a community where everyone can thrive. Seeing issues like homelessness, mental health challenges, and obstacles facing local businesses, I felt a strong call to step up and make a difference.
“I want to work alongside residents to address these concerns and help create a safer, more vibrant and inclusive Moose Jaw.”
Q: “How would you describe yourself as both an individual and as a candidate?”
A: “As an individual, I am compassionate, driven, and deeply committed to helping others. I’ve spent years advocating for mental health, supporting youth empowerment, and assisting vulnerable individuals,” she replied.
“As a candidate, I’m focused, solution-oriented, and eager to listen to the community. My experiences as a small business owner, caregiver, and advocate give me a unique perspective and drive me to pursue practical solutions for Moose Jaw’s challenges.”
Q: “How do you stay connected to the community?”
A: “I stay connected to the community by actively listening and engaging with residents, local organizations, and business owners. I believe that real change happens when we understand each other’s experiences and challenges.
“Since moving to Moose Jaw, I’ve attended community events, listened to concerns, and built relationships with people across the city. This approach helps me stay grounded in the needs of our community and allows me to make informed decisions.”
Q: “How would you describe your vision for the city?”
A: “My vision for Moose Jaw is a community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. I want to see a city that provides compassionate support for those facing homelessness and mental health struggles, fosters youth empowerment, and values seniors.
“I envision a revitalized downtown, strengthened local businesses, and accessible, inclusive spaces that reflect our community’s needs and aspirations.”
Q: “How will you ensure accountability and transparency in your role?”
A: “I believe in open communication and transparency as the foundation of trust with the community. I plan to work with council to hold regular town hall meetings, provide updates on council decisions, and encourage feedback from residents.
“I am committed to prioritizing accountability, ensuring that decisions made at the council level reflect the interest of Moose Jaw’s residents, and maintaining an open dialogue to address concerns and questions.”
Q: “What are your top guiding values?”
A: “My guiding values are compassion, integrity, and collaboration.
“Compassion drives my commitment to advocate for those who feel unheard or marginalized. Integrity ensures that I act with honesty and transparency in every decision. Collaboration reminds me that we achieve more when we work together, valuing diverse perspectives to find the best solutions for Moose Jaw.”
Q: “What would you say are the top three issues or concerns that you would like to address?”
A: Zimmerman said three of her leading concerns are homelessness and mental health support, economic development and business growth, and youth and senior support.
Homelessness and mental health support: “The need for compassionate and effective solutions to homelessness and mental health (issues) is urgent. We need to ensure access to safe shelters and resources for individuals in need.”
Economic development and business growth: “Supporting local businesses and creating a business-friendly environment are essential for Moose Jaw’s prosperity. Addressing tax and policy challenges will help attract and retain businesses.”
Youth and senior support: “Empowering our youth and caring for our seniors are vital for a balanced, inclusive community. Providing resources for youth empowerment and adequate support for seniors will help Moose Jaw thrive.”
Q: “In your own words, why should people vote for you?”
A: “People should vote for me because I bring a unique blend of compassion, experience, and a fresh perspective. I am committed to listening, learning, and taking action that reflects the needs and values of Moose Jaw’s residents.
“I want to be a strong voice for the community, ensuring that council decisions benefit everyone and creates a brighter future for Moose Jaw.
“I am deeply committed to serving Moose Jaw and helping it reach its full potential,” Zimmerman said in her closing remarks. “With experience in mental health, youth empowerment, and small business, I understand the challenges and opportunities facing our community.
“As a mother, former foster and adoptive parent, and live-in caregiver for my aging mother, I bring a deep sense of empathy and a commitment to inclusivity. I’m ready to work with local leaders and community members to create a more supportive, vibrant Moose Jaw for everyone.
“I want voters to know that I am dedicated to making a positive impact in Moose Jaw. I am running as part of the Moose Jaw Vitality Team — a group of four residents who are committed to listening to the community and working collaboratively to make Moose Jaw the best it can be. Together, we bring fresh perspectives and a shared vision for positive change in our city.
