Only one team remains unbeaten in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League 15U AAA standings, and it’s none other than the Moose Jaw Canucks.

The Canucks improved to 8-0 on the season with one of the most impressive winning runs in recent memory, claiming back-to-back doubleheaders with the Saskatoon Astros and East Central Dodgers over the May 28 weekend before downing the Regina White Sox 6-2 on Wednesday, June 1.

Moose Jaw opened their run with 16-2 and 3-2 wins over the Astros before pounding out 9-3 and 16-9 wins over the Dodgers.

They’re back in action on Wednesday, June 8 when they travel to Regina to face the White Sox. Next home action is Thursday, June 9 against the Regina Wolfpack, with game time 6 p.m. at Swarbrick Diamond.

Canucks 16, Astros 2

Moose Jaw built an 8-0 lead through two innings and led 11-1 through three before going on to their mercy-rule victory.

Gerritt Gulutzan had another stellar night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI. Zayden Anderson provided plenty of offence from the bottom of the order, going 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI; Max Simmons was 2-for-2 with a run, two RBI and a pair of walks.

Rylan Caplette-Tarrant went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings of work and striking out three.

Canucks 3, Astros 2

The Canucks gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, but chipped away as the game progressed, eventually tying things in the top of the fourth.

That set the stage for Spencer Craig in the fifth inning, as he drew a lead-off walk, went to second on a passed ball, stole third and finally scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Anderson.

Owen Varjassy took over from there, scattering three hits over the final three innings and striking out a pair to secure the win. Cam Beisal started and went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Simmons and Noah Thul scored Moose Jaw’s other runs.

Canucks 9, Dodgers 3

Moose Jaw wasted little time getting going, with a six-run second inning leading to a 9-0 edge through three.

Anderson continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and two runs. Simmons also had a triple as his lone hit and crossed the plate twice, while Gulutzan was 1-for-4 but knocked in three. Van Sinclair and Beisal also had two hits each, with the latter knocking in two.

Owen Csada used the run support to his advantage, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out seven in 5 ⅓. Craig struck out four in his 1 ⅔ innings work.

Canucks 16, Dodgers 9

The Canucks trailed 4-2 heading into the fifth inning, but by the time the bottom of the sixth came around, they had a 16-6 edge courtesy back-to-back seven-run innings.

That involved sending 13 batters to the plate in the fifth and 11 in the sixth to build their insurmountable edge.

The top of the order had a stellar night -- Beisal scored a pair of runs, Simmons was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, Gulutzan 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and two RBI, Thul 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Anderson also had a perfect night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Simmons got the start and allowed four runs on nine hits over three innings, Vajrassy allowed three runs on three hits in three innings and Thul two runs on a hit in the final frame.

Canucks 6, White Sox 2

Moose Jaw’s most recent win once again saw an early lead -- this time 4-0 through two -- and that was more than enough for Caplette-Tarrant, who’d surrender a single run on two hits in three innings work.

Craig closed things out, giving up an unearned run on one hit and striking out three in four innings.

Varjassy was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, Sinclair 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
