Moose Jaw doctor Youssef Al-Begamy dies in Toronto hospital of Covid-19 complications

Moose Jaw mourns doctor

Dr. Youssef Al-Begamy died on Sunday in Ontario after being transferred out of the province to be treated for Covid-19. Al-Begamy was a family and emergency room physician who practiced in Regina, Moose Jaw, and Fort Qu’Appelle.

On Monday, his friend and colleague Dr. Fauzi Ramadan told several media outlets that Al-Begamy was a pleasant, humorous man who was a pleasure to work with and be around.

Prayers were said for Dr. Al-Begamy Monday night at 7:30 pm at the Moose Jaw Mosque. A representative at the mosque remembered Al-Begamy as a “very kind, nice person” and said his friends at the mosque were shocked and upset at his passing.

Al-Begamy was known for his strength and fitness. Facebook posts from the many friends mourning his death noted that he had allegedly refused the Covid-19 vaccine, believing his chances of contracting the disease were too low for it to matter. Others posted that he was known to oppose the vaccine mandate.

Dr. Ramadan told news outlets that Al-Begamy’s body would be sent home to his mother and sisters in Saudi Arabia, who were devastated by his death.
