Moose Jaw has long been known for producing elite lacrosse talent, and now a group of Mustangs players will have a chance to show off just how good they are at a major tournament in the United States.
A total of 15 players from across three age divisions will take part in the U.S. Winter Box Lacrosse Nationals beginning Friday in Phoenix, Ariz., marking the first trip to the elite tournament for players from the local organization.
Five Mustangs veterans will take the floor with the U18 Mustangs Elite Men, with Cashton Seaborg, Colton Ebbett, Josh Johnson, Luke Andrews and Mason Williams suiting up for their hometown team. The event will mark the second major competition for Seaborg and Williams in the last calendar year after the duo represented Saskatchewan at the Canada Summer Games last August.
Mykenzie Shymko -- who captained the first-ever Team Sask women’s lacrosse squad at the Canada Summer Games -- will once again lead Saskatchewan in the U15 Women’s division, while high-scoring runner Lachlan Clark will take the floor with the Shattler Academy U15 team.
The bulk of Moose Jaw representation comes from the U13 Mustangs, who will be represented by eight players in Chase Folk, Kashton Smith, Caiden Arnott, Luke Turner, Riley Bender, Cooper Bruce, Bentley Messner and Cruz Seaborg.
In addition to offering a ton of experience and plenty of tough competition against some of the best club teams in the U.S., the event is also highly scouted and will give players a chance to connect with U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities to pursue post-secondary scholarship opportunities.
