The Moose Jaw Police Service and SGI hosted a drop-in car seat clinic on Monday afternoon, inviting the public to Murray GM Moose Jaw to have their car seats inspected by a trained car seat technician.

Brad Sukenik, of the Moose Jaw Police Traffic and Safety Unit, says the experts on hand during these clinics are there to answer any questions or concerns about car seat safety, and to walk through the process of installation.

“We’ll take them through step-by-step on everything from the age of the child, how to secure them in the car properly, how to buckle them up properly, and just some other safety issues with the child car seat that the parents want to ask; we’ll try to answer their questions for them,” said Sukenik.

The clinics are held regularly around the province and are free to the public as a drop-in service. As car seats do have expiry dates and can vary in their installation, Sukenik says it is important to know that your car seat is up to safety regulations.

“It comes back to the old saying, ‘seatbelts save lives,’ and with child car seats, it's no different,” said Sukenik. “If they’re secured safely in the car and properly in the car, then that will save lives.”

All designated car seat clinics can be found listed on the SGI website, and are searchable by area. For those who cannot find a clinic near them, SGI offers appointments with car seat technicians that can be booked through certain SGI claims centres.
