Moose Jaw Sno-drifters Sled Rally takes place this weekend

The event is something the whole family can enjoy

For the first time in many years, the Moose Jaw Snowmobile Club will be hosting its Sno-Drifters Sled Rally this weekend.

Starting at the Tuxford Community Hall, Saturday, March 2, the Snowmobile Club is inviting the community to come out and enjoy this highly anticipated event. The club says all age groups are welcome to join.

Registrations will start at 10 a.m. at the Tuxford Community Hall and will end at 12 p.m. Participants will then head out to cover 80 km snow trail and return to the Community Hall.

The cost to enter the rally is $15 per rider. The club says registration will cover lunch and the first hand of cards ($5 per additional hand). There will also be many cash prizes to be won, a penny parade and other fun activities.

The Snowmobile club is a non-profit organization made up of a group of volunteers who fundraise to host its winter activities.

Dani Forness, who is a volunteer member and serves as secretary for the club says this year’s Snowmobile Derby will assist in raising funds to establish a snowmobile trail.

“Because we haven’t had much snow for a while, this is our first rally in many years. We hope to see as many participants this year if the weather cooperates. Anyone is welcome to join us,” she said. “We are working to establish a snowmobiling trail — a groomed trail to connect with the rest of Saskatchewan’s snowmobile trail systems.”

Forness gave a look into the day’s rally and what to expect.

“We will start at the Community Hall in Tuxford, then the snowmobilers will head west and then south to Caronport fielding station and back east to just on the edge of city limits to Moose Jaw. Snowmobilers will then turn north to head back to Tuxford. The last rider should be in by 4 p.m. It will be like a loop. It is a fun experience for everyone involved.”
