Moose Jaw teams in action at Softball Sask men’s, women’s provincials this coming weekend

Trio of local women’s teams in action in Women’s Open provincials at Eddy Moore Park; Canadians and Giants to play in Men’s Open tournament at Earl Grey

Eddy Moore Park will be hosting the Softball Sask Women's Open provincial championship tournament this coming weekend.

A trio of Moose Jaw women’s fastball teams will be looking to win a provincial championship on home soil this coming weekend.

The Moose Jaw Heat, Moose Jaw Hustlers and Moose Jaw Strikers will all take the field at Eddy Moore Park to battle for the Softball Sask Women’s Open provincial championship beginning Friday afternoon.

The Hustlers and Strikers open play at 12:30 p.m. before the Heat play their first game at 2 p.m. against the Regina Rampage.

The Heat play their second game at 4:30 p.m. Friday before returning to the field at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against the Saskatoon Lunar Eclipse. Their final game of the round robin is at 4:30 p.m. against the Redvers Foxy Sox.

The Hustlers play their second game against the Saskatoon Senior Eclipse at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and finish their preliminary round at 1 p.m. against the West Central Black Ice.

The Strikers take on the Black Ice at 9 a.m. and Senior Eclipse at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The top three teams from each pool advance to the championship round Sunday, with the quarter-final at 9:30 a.m., semifinal at 12 p.m. and gold medal game at 3 p.m.

The Moose Jaw Giants and Moose Jaw Canadians men’s fastball teams will also be in action at the Men’s Open provincials in Earl Grey.

Things kick off for the Canadians at 12 p.m. Friday against the Neudorf Posse, followed by the Piapot Northstars at 4 p.m. Their two games Saturday are at 8:30 a.m. against the Earl Grey Rockets and 3:30 p.m. against the Hanley Merchants.

For the Giants, their first game will be at 12 p.m. Friday against the Grenfell Gems and they’ll take on the Wynyard Blues at 4 p.m. Saturday action is against the Highway 22 Cowboys at 8:30 a.m. and Conquest Capitals at 3:30 p.m.

The top four teams advance to the playoffs, with the quarter-finals Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., followed by the semifinals at 1 p.m. and gold medal game at 3:30 p.m.
