CALGARY -- Moose Jaw WINMAR Warriors have seen their run come to an end at the Circle K Classic.
The Airdrie CFR Bisons scored two goals in the first period and added another three in the second before going on to a 6-3 victory in the tournament quarter-final on Monday afternoon.
Moose Jaw had finished second in their pool with a 2-1 record, advancing to the A division playoffs after taking a 7-3 win over the Calgary Northstars on Sunday night.
Things didn’t go as well in the quarter-final, beginning when Airdrie’s Jensen Marsh and Jordin St. Louis scored 18 seconds apart at the six minute mark for a quick 2-0 lead.
Ryan Gibbs got one back for Moose Jaw with 4:39 to play in the period, but another two quick goals for the Bisons would make it a 4-1 game. Jensen Marsh scored 1:22 into the period and Tyler Deakos followed 3:40 later for the three-goal edge.
Carson Deichert scored his third of the tournament at the 6:10 mark of the second, but Ty Janz would restore Airdrie’s comfortable lead with 7:09 left in the period.
Moose Jaw looked to get back within striking distance when Kierin Osberg scored with 6:26 to play, but that would be as close as they’d get, and Airdrie’s Kaden Skrenk capped scoring in the contest with an empty netter with 1:38 remaining.
Kaleb Page got the start and faced four shots before being replaced at the 7:40 mark by Luke McKechnie, who turned aside 12 the rest of the way. Brandon Williams had 11 saves for Airdrie.
The WINMAR Warriors will now make the journey home before returning to the ice Saturday when they host the Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers. Game time is 1:30 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
