SWCT Moose Jaw final Barker
Penny Barker and her rink of third Christie Gamble, second Jenna Enge and lead Danielle Sicinski are set to take the ice at the Viterra Scotties.
The teams are decided, the ice is ready, and it’s time to decide the Viterra Scotties women’s provincial curling champion.

A total of 12 teams from throughout the province take the ice in Assiniboia beginning Wednesday night with a slate of four games, with action kicking off at 7:30 p.m. at the Prince of Wales Cultural and Community Centre.

One team that won’t be on the ice opening night is Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker. As the tournament’s top seed out of the Saskatchewan Women’s Curling Tour, Barker and her Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre rink of third Christie Gamble, second Jenna Enge and lead Danielle Sicinski have received a first-round bye and will play their first game at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

They’ll face the winner of Biggar’s Brett Barber and Regina Highland’s Lorraine Schneider in their A-side second-round contest. Schneider and Barker have happy history -- Schneider played second for Barker when the local rink won the 2017 Viterra Scotties.

Two-time former provincial champion and 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner Amber Holland and her rink of third Kim Schneider, second Karlee Korchinski and lead Deb Lozinski also received a first-round bye.

Holland emerged as the third qualifier on the Canadian Team Ranking System leaderboard and plays the winner of Biggar’s Brett Barber and Regina Highland’s Michelle Englot in their A-side second-round game. Englot is coached by Gerry Adam, who curled second for Moose Jaw’s Pat Simmons in his 2007 and 2008 Tankard wins.

Regina Highland’s Chelsea Carey (CRTS 1) and 2020 Scotties champion Robyn Silvernagle of North Battleford (CTRS 5) received the other first-round byes,

The other opening draw games see Saskatoon Sutherland’s Ashley Howard take on rinkmate Jessica Mitchell, while Regina Highland’s Stasia Wisniewski will face seven-time former Scotties provincial champion and four-time reigning world senior champion Sherry Anderson of Martensville.

Tournament action continues with three draws a day, with the ‘A’ qualifier at 3 p.m. Friday, ‘B’ qualifier 10 a.m. Saturday and two ‘C’ qualifiers at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Page Playoff 1-2 and 3-4 games take place 7:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the semifinal at 10 a.m. Sunday and championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday.
