The provincial government has extended the application deadline for the Re-Open Saskatchewan Training Subsidy (RSTS) until the end of March, to offer the opportunity to more business to apply.

Launched in June, the RSTS is a temporary training subsidy for businesses that needed to train employees as part of adjusting to the impacts of COVID-19.

The subsidy is available to private-sector employers and covers the entire cost of employee training up to $10,000, provided the training begins within four months of the application date and concludes by four months after approval.

“This program has been another important tool to support Saskatchewan businesses as they work through the global COVID-19 pandemic,” said Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison, in a press release. “With significant uptake to this point, we want to extend the deadline to give more businesses the opportunity to access this program as we continue with our economic recovery efforts.”

The application date has been extended until March 31, after a positive response from employers after the program launched earlier in 2020.

The RSTS has approved over 600 applications and committed $2.5 million in funds to Saskatchewan businesses.
