REGINA -- It’s so far, so good for Rogan Snow and Dylan Derksen through the first two days at the Curl Sask Under-20 Men’s Provincial Championship in Regina.
Both teams currently hold a 2-0 record and sit tied atop the standngs in the six-team tournament taking place at the Highland Curling Club -- and all four of the wins have seen the victors put up some gaudy numbers.
Rogan and his Saskatoon Sutherland rink of third Nathan Roy, second Brandon Henbury and lead Josh Lussier put up a pair of three-enders late to take a 10-4 win over Esterhazy’s Brandon Weiss in their opening game Thursday.
Things were a touch closer in the afternoon draw against Saskatoon Nutana’s Jared Tessier, but a four-spot in the fourth end would be all the difference in a 10-6 victory.
Derksen and his Martensville rink of third Logan Sawicki, second Tyler Derksen and lead Gavin Martens had a single game in the afternoon draw and were finished early, scoring four in the eighth end to take an 11-2 win over Regina Callie’s Andrew Moulding.
It’s the second provincial championship in a couple weeks for Derksen, after he skipped his rink to a 4-4 record at the SaskTel Tankard and nearly reached the playoffs.
The other morning draw contest saw Moose Jaw’s Dayne Heisler rebound from a loss to Derksen a day earlier, taking a 10-7 win over Tessier.
Standing after Thursday’s games are as follows
Dylan Derksen 2-0
Rogan Snow 2-0
Dayne Heisler 1-1
Andrew Moulding 1-1
Josh Tessier 0-2
Brandon Weiss 0-2
