Sask Parks is offering winter camping discounts and free guided programming for Family Week

Saskatchewan’s Family Day statutory holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 21 this year. Sask Parks is offering activities, programs, and specials for the week, beginning Feb. 18 and ending Feb. 27.

Sask Parks is offering a BOGO (buy one, get one free) winter camping promotion for Family Week. Campers can book a night of winter camping and get their second night free for that week. The offer is an inexpensive way for people to try camping during the winter season.

The offer is valid for electric and non-electric campsites in Buffalo Pound, Cypress Hills, Duck Mountain, Echo Valley, Great Blue Heron, Moose Mountain, and Pike Lake Provincial Parks between Feb. 18 and Feb. 27.

Potential campers need to use the code SNOWBOGO on the Order Details page while booking their site at parks.saskatchewan.ca.

“Winter in Sask Parks continues to grow bigger and better each year,” Parks, Culture, and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. “We want everyone to bring their families to our provincial parks for winter staycations that not only include a number of activities for the whole family, but a variety of options for overnight stays as well.”

Fun, interactive guided programs led by park staff are also available throughout Family Week. The programs are offered in a variety designed to help those who are new to winter activities – or who just want to try something new.

Families can find the Sask Parks Winter Programs & Events on the Sask Parks Website. By clicking the “register here” links for a specific park, that park’s Family Week events can be found. Sask Parks is encouraging families to try out events during their winter camping trips.

Family Week events in Buffalo Pound are free. Participants who pre-register will be entered into a draw to win a Sask Parks prize pack. All events are dependent on the weather – temperatures at or below -26°C (with the wind chill) will result in cancellation.

Events will include:

  • Monday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. – Winter Fun Basecamp on Toboggan Hill. Program description:
    • “Winter is long in Saskatchewan; find your next winter activity to help make winter fly by! Try winter disc golf, ice painting, make snow sculptures, and more. There will be a campfire nearby to warm up throughout the day. A variety of activities will be available to try out each Sunday at our Winter Fun Basecamp, suitable for all ages.”
  • Monday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. – Snowshoe to the Bison. Participants will meet at the park entry gate. Program description:
    • “Get up close and personal to an animal weighing over 2,000 lbs. as you snowshoe your way alongside the bison. Our Park Interpreter will guide you on this fun hike along the bison range and provide a unique experience for all ages. This program is designed for all levels of experience in snowshoeing. Snowshoes will be provided, but please wear boots and dress appropriately. If there is not enough snow to utilize snowshoes, this program will be offered as a winter hike.”
