Sask Women's Curling Tour Moose Jaw spiel underway

Plenty of rinks with local connections taking the ice at Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre this weekend
The first draw is in the books for the Sask Women’s Curling Tour stop at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, and there were a handful of good results for teams with local connections.

Deanna Doig, Amber Holland and Skylar Ackerman all posted wins in the first round of games and sit in a three-way tie for first place in Pool A.

Doig -- skipping in place of Penny Barker -- scored three three-enders on her way to a 10-2 victory over Regina’s Elisa Soika, while Holland scored points over the final three ends to defeat Weyburn’s Jade Bloor 8-4 and Ackerman did the same to take a 5-4 extra end win over Regina’s Stasia Wisniewski.

Lorraine Arguin didn’t have as much luck in Pool B action against Regina’s Michelle Englot, falling 6-3, while former Moose Jaw competitor Lorraine Schneider picked up a 9-4 win over Regina’s Kyla Thies and Regina’s Sherrilee Orsted -- who has Moose Jaw’s Candace Newkirk at third -- fell 7-6 to Regina’s Stephanie Schmidt.

Action continued Friday night with a draw at 9:30 p.m., followed by draws at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Depending on the upcoming winter storm, the playoff round starts at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the semifinal at 12:30 p.m. and championship game at 4 p.m.

Limited fan seating is available, with a capacity of 30 in the upstairs lounge through the weekend.
