UPDATE:
The Moose Jaw Police Service has announced that Thatcher Drive West is once again open to traffic.
Highway 1 near the Peanut Hill Campground is also open to traffic, however, due to the amount of backed up traffic, patience is appreciated in getting the vehicles safely moving.
Police are also issuing a reminder to continue to use extreme caution when travelling on all streets and highways in and around Moose Jaw, as the icy conditions remain in effect.
ORIGINAL STORY
Motorists likely needed spikes on their tires to get to work due to freezing rain, which caused numerous collisions throughout Moose Jaw and kept the Moose Jaw Police Service busy.
Since 8 a.m. on Jan. 5, the police service has responded to several motor vehicle collisions throughout the community due to the ice road conditions. Specifically, Thatcher Drive Northwest before VLA Gate to the Stadacona Street West intersection is closed to traffic due to many vehicles blocking Thatcher Drive Northwest, according to a police news release.
The Moose Jaw Police Service will advise the public when the road is open to traffic.
While city crews are out spreading sand at important intersections, streets and roads are still dangerously ice due to the continued freezing rain, the news release said. Police are advising motorists to use caution since many streets are impassable.
The Moose Jaw Police Service thanks motorists for travelling safely and will provide more information about the situation as it becomes available.
