UPDATED: Highway 2 re-opened after serious accident, two in hospital

UPDATE:

Moose Jaw RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of Buffalo Pound Lake at approximately 11:50 a.m. today. As a result, the road was closed to traffic. The highway has since reopened to traffic in both directions.

The initial investigation indicates that a southbound truck attempting to avoid the southbound SUV in front of it, which was slowing down to make a turn, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a northbound car.

Two adult females travelling in the northbound car suffered what the RCMP have described as serious injuries. One woman was transported to hospital in Moose Jaw by local EMS and the other was transported via STARS Air Ambulance to hospital in Regina. No other injuries were reported.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.

In a press release, the RCMP noted they want to thank everyone at the scene of the accident who provided asistance. This includes nurses, a paramedic, and a firefighter who assisted the injured parties. The public also helped with blocking off the road.

A serious accident has closed Highway 2 on the north side of Buffalo Pound Lake.

Moose Jaw RCMP responded to a serious two-vehicle collision in the area earlier today, with witness accounts indicating two vehicles were involved a head-on collision. The highway was closed to traffic in both directions in order to allow STARS air ambulance to land.

Officers are currently on-site directing traffic, but motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
