If you’re looking for something fun to do with your little ones on Saturday, the Moose Jaw Shrine Club’s Children’s Festival is the perfect solution.

The day is going to be filled with all kinds of great things to check out: there will be a kite building station, and Ol’ McDales Petting Zoo is bringing some furry friends, and magician Mr. Ken may have some tricks up his sleeve.

Don’t forget the bouncy castles, carnival games, face painting, and children’s singer Aaron Burnett. The Shrine Club train will be taking passengers for rides, and anyone attending the event also gets free admission into the Western Development Museum for the day.

Currently, several places in the city have tickets for the event, but there’s no cost whatsoever to attend. The ticket is for the kids to bring with them, and redeem for a free hot dog and juice box at the festival.

The entire event is free, something that Moose Jaw Shrine Club president Derroch Cairns is proud to say. The Shrine Club used to organize the Shrine Circus but found that even with free admission, the rest of the day could get pricey for parents, and so they decided to do something different.

“[The Shrine Circus could be] very expensive for families to do. So it limited people to not being able to attend the event as much as we'd like to see,” said Cairns. “So we decided as a club to try something a little different, and to try and raise money in the community to cover the costs of a whole event.”

And they have; the Children’s Festival is totally free of charge thanks to the support of local businesses, and everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy.

“We found that people are very appreciative and very happy, and can't even believe that we can do this for free,” said Cairns.

Tickets are available beforehand at Heritage Insurance, South Hill Fine Foods, the Western Development Museum or at Moose Jaw Tourism. There may be some left over on the day of the festival, which will be at the WDM to pick up.

The fun starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. on June 1, out at the Western Development Museum.
