Vanier’s Meili receives Provincial Service Award as annual honours presented at special banquet

MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- It was a special night for a handful of longtime coaches and officials in the South Central District Athletic Association.

Seven individuals received honours from the SCDAA and the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association at a banquet on Monday night, with the awards recognizing coaches, officials and administrators who have put countless hours into making high school sports in the area what they are today.

Vanier’s Leanne Meili received one of the top honours, as the longtime coach was presented with the SHSAA provincial service award. This may be a coach, official, volunteer or administrator’.

Meili has coached for 26 years, leading Vanier to multiple track and field championships while also coaching the Spirits to the city girls volleyball championship in 2018.

Longtime volleyball official Rick Cartman received the SHSAA provincial officiating excellence award, while Vanier’s Christa Lapointe and Rouleau’s Mitch Singleton were honoured with SHSAA provincial coaching excellence awards.

Peacock’s Jana Polupski, Avonlea’s Christy Kuffner, Assiniboia’s Jeff Feeley and Assiniboia’s Curtis Hawkins all received SHSAA district service awards.
