A section of Highway 1 east of Moose Jaw continues to be shut down because of two incidents involving semi-trucks, a result of Colorado low continuing to blow through southern Saskatchewan.

According to the Highway Hotline website, winter conditions exist on the highway from Moose Jaw to Belle Plaine — the road is still open — although travel is not recommended from that community to Regina.

Five kilometres east of Belle Plaine, two semi-trucks are blocking the eastbound lanes and has shut down the road. Police are on scene and have reduced the road’s speed, while motorists are encouraged to slow down around emergency workers and equipment and use an alternate route.

Meanwhile, south on Highway 2 past 15 Wing Air Base, there is poor visibility on that road. That limited visibility persists on Highway 2 to Assiniboia and on Highway 36 to the junction at Highway 13.

Also, winter conditions exist on Highway 2 north to Tuxford. However, the road is closed north of that community all the way to Chamberlain and then to Davidson.

Saskatchewan RCMP is urging drivers to avoid travelling in southeastern Saskatchewan due to reduced visibility and poor road conditions from the spring storm pummeling the region.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada snowfall and winter storm warnings remain in effect across Southeastern Saskatchewan as of 7 a.m. CST on Thursday. According to the public agency, the heaviest stretch of snowfall was Wednesday morning but accumulating snowfall was expected to continue into Thursday.

As much as 10 to 20 centimetres of snow is anticipated to fall in certain parts of southern Saskatchewan during this snowstorm.

Environment Canada says conditions are expected to improve later in the day on Thursday and into Friday.
