A phone survey conducted late last year has found that most citizens have a favourable view of the Moose Jaw Police Service.

The survey was conducted in October 2019 in collaboration with the University of Regina. A total of 325 residents responded.

The findings show that:

  • 81.9 per cent of respondents ranked the overall quality of service provided by the MJPS as very good or excellent;
  • 85.3 per cent of respondents somewhat or strongly agreed that the MJPS was an organization with integrity and honesty;
  • 82.4 per cent agreed or strongly agreed the MJPS demonstrates professionalism in their work;
  • 71.9 per cent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the MJPS understand the issues that affect their community;
  • 81.3 per cent of the respondents ranked their overall satisfaction with the MJPS as very good or excellent;
  • 87.8 per cent agreed or strongly agreed having confidence in calling 911 in emergency situations.

Moose Jaw residents feel that the city is a very or somewhat safe community, with 59.7 per cent respondents in agreement. Just 2.5 per cent of respondents identified Moose Jaw as being “very unsafe.”

Over half of respondents (54.3 per cent) feel that crime is about the same while 42.1 per cent say it has increased.

When asked about priorities for policing, respondents identified reducing gang-related crimes, drinking and driving, property crime, helping people experiencing a mental health crisis, and increasing interactions with different community groups, including youth.
