Moose Jaw: Three new councillors to join three incumbents

The election determined who the new six city councillors will be for the next four years, along with the new trustees for Prairie South and Holy Trinity Catholic school divisions.

MOOSE JAW — Following the closure of polls on Nov. 13, it took roughly an hour for the votes to be counted to determine which of the 24 city council candidates will take one of the six positions. 

Four councillors ran for re-election this year — Jamey Logan, Doug Blanc, Heather Eby and Dawn Luhning — alongside 20 others coming from various backgrounds and professions.

After the 8,606 votes were counted — the city will officially verify the ballots on Friday, Nov. 15 — the new council for the next four years is comprised of Logan, Patrick Boyle, Chris Warren, Heather Eby, Dawn Luhning and Carla Delaurier.

Logan, a businessman who owns Strictly Fences, received 4,382 votes or roughly 51 per cent.

Boyle, an executive director for the Water Security Agency and a former city councillor, received 3,662 votes or roughly 42.6 per cent.

Warren, the director of roadways and transportation for the City of Regina and a former Moose Jaw city councillor, received 2,666 votes or 31 per cent.

Eby, a registered massage therapist, received 2,574 votes or 29.9 per cent.

Luhning, a financial consultant, received 2,523 votes or 29.4 per cent.

Delaurier, a volunteer on several community boards, received 2,516 votes or roughly 29.3 per cent.

The votes cast for the remaining candidates are as follows:

  • Coun. Doug Blanc: 2,232 votes
  • Ashlea Street: 2,129 ballots
  • Carolyn Ross: 1,925 votes
  • Dave Stevenson: 1,662 ballots
  • Michelle Christie: 1,640 votes
  • Sam Morrison: 1,557 ballots
  • John Adams: 1,466 votes
  • Darrell Markin: 1,451 ballots
  • Jamaal James: 1,376 votes
  • Godwin Ezizor: 1,285 ballots
  • Obeyaa Ampofo-Hunstad: 1,002 votes
  • Tracy Zimmerman: 915 ballots
  • Jana Horsnall: 855 votes
  • Steven White: 846 ballots
  • Jeff Goodnough: 683 votes
  • Perry Haug: 533 ballots
  • Zac Monchamp: 305 votes

Prairie South School Division

The five trustees with Prairie South School Division who will represent the City of Moose Jaw are Mary Jukes (2,119 votes), Boyle (2,105 votes), Brett Hagan (2,061 votes), Lew Young (1,925 votes) and Tenielle McLeod (1,706 votes).

McLeod is the only new Moose Jaw trustee; the others are returning.

Other returning trustees include Darcy Prior in subdivision 1, Robert Bachmann in subdivision 2, John Bumbac in subdivision 3, Giselle Wilson in subdivision 4 and Shawn Davidson in subdivision 5. Prior was re-elected while everyone else was acclaimed.

Holy Trinity Catholic School Division

The four trustees with Holy Trinity Catholic School Division who will represent Moose Jaw are Christine Boyczuk (592 votes), Derek Hassen (559 votes), Joann Blazieko (547 votes) and Alison Bradish (525 votes).

Other new Catholic trustees include Marc Perrault in Swift Current (acclaimed) and Dana Thiessen in Shaunavon (acclaimed).

The new city council will serve for the next four years alongside James Murdock, who was elected the 42nd mayor of Moose Jaw.
